Cement plant workers vote to continue with their Union’s collective bargaining agreement
HERMOSILLO, Sonora.- Workers of the Holcim plant voted to continue with the collective bargaining agreement of the Worker’s Union of the Cement, Lime, Asbestos, Plaster, Containers and Similar and Related Products of the Mexican Republic.
This, after a session in which close to 80 employees were to decide whether they would continue their affiliation with the union belonging to the Confederation of Mexican Workers (CTM) or switch to the Mining Union.
Observers, union leaders and international bodies, were present from the early hours of this Thursday at the Holcim plant, given that the Mining Union, of the International Confederation of Labor (CIT) headed by senator Napoleón Gómez Urrutia, had been fighting for certification to manage this plant’s collective bargaining agreement for almost one year.
Members of both unions, the CTM and the CIT were present outside the plant with some banners since 7:00 am, when the voting started, but everything was calm.
Both union organizations have had other confrontations over the certification to handle the agreements, as is the case of a mine in Sinaloa, which is yet to be resolved.
The Holcim plant in Hermosillo is one of seven plants owned by the company in the Country; these plants produce and market cement, premixed concrete and other products and has close to 80 employees.
